Our team at NC3 has some impressive employees in our ranks and this Staff Spotlight series aims to highlight the incredibly talented individuals who work with us. We’ll be featuring a new interview in our monthly newsletters, here on our website, and on our social media pages each month. This month’s Staff Spotlight features NC3 team member, Mark DeHart. Mark is a Master Instructor and Program Manager for Kubota Tech. The Kubota Tech program services over 1,100 dealers nationwide and is growing rapidly to meet the huge demand! Fun fact… Although the Kubota Tech program is centered around Kubota, it fits into any diesel program to assist with student learning.

In addition to Mark’s role at NC3, he is also a faculty member at Hartnell College in Salinas California, where he teaches in the Automotive and Diesel programs.

To learn more about Mark, how he feels empowered to help shape NC3’s culture, what’s on his wish list for the next 5 years, and more, check out our Q&A session below!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

My mother, a single mom, passed away when I was 17 years old, and I have been on my own ever since. At the same time, I decided to drop out of high school, which cost me two football scholarships to well-known schools. Fast forward 19 years, I am working on my Ph.D. To round out the story, I believe our past does not define who we are. It simply provides a light unto our path.

What would you tell someone in high school about the years to come?

Do what you love while you love what you do! The years to come will go by in the blink of an eye. It’s not worth the effort if you can’t be proud of who you are and what you are doing. So slow down, get into a career you love, give your all, and share it with someone.

Do you have a favorite quote?

“Stop waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel. Light it up yourself.”

What do you like to do on your days off?

I’m not sure I know what the words “days off” mean, but I am with my family when I have some free time. Family is the most important thing to me, and I want to spend as much time with them as I can. To pick an activity would be difficult, but the setting is what matters. We enjoy being outdoors in all that we do. Our farm has many animals, and we love riding horses as a family.

How do you feel empowered to help shape or participate in NC3’s culture?

The culture of NC3 is what attracted me to them — helping to empower schools and students with certifications that lead to a career.  My main focus is the student being successful in both life and career. I feel like NC3 is situated to do just that, by providing the training necessary for the student to be successful.

What is your proudest moment at NC3?

My proudest moment was when I was able to help a new school understand the power of education through industry-recognized certifications, and thus they became a partnering NC3 Leadership School.

What is on your wish list for the next 5 years with NC3?

Within the next five years, I want to be more involved. When I commit to something, I’m all in. I think NC3 has something special in what they do, I believe they have the best team members to accomplish it, and I want to continue to be part of it.
