Our team at NC3 has some impressive employees in our ranks and this Staff Spotlight series aims to highlight the incredibly talented individuals who work with us. We’ll be featuring a new interview in our monthly newsletters, here on our website, and on our social media pages each month.
This month’s Staff Spotlight features NC3 team member, Bora Myles… NC3’s Program Manager for 3M! Before joining our team here at NC3, Bora spent the last eight years working as a Program Manager in the fields of Health Care and Education.
In her role at NC3, Bora supports our global industry partner 3M. Through collaboration, our team has created a new scholarship for passionate and diverse students with a focus on skilled trades. In partnership with NC3 and the 3M’s Safety and Industrial Business Group, this new scholarship – “The Skilled Trades – 3M Transformational Scholarship” – will provide schools the ability to build within their communities by focusing on bridging gaps of inequality with the highest standards of skilled trades and education.
3M and NC3 will award a $1,000 scholarship to fifty students joining us at NC3 National Signing Day events at participating schools this year. Award recipients will be announced on Thursday, April 7, 2022 and awarded at NC3 National Signing Day.
Check out our Q&A session below to learn what Bora likes most about her job, what’s on her wishlist for the next 5 years with NC3, and more!
What do you like most about your job?
I love the collaborative, innovative, and humble environment NC3 has cultivated so well. Also, I appreciate the ability to learn as I lead. NC3 encourages us to join trainings and gain certificates in our areas of interest and I love that. I feel blessed to manage initiatives that I’m passionate about.
Do you have a favorite quote?
Yes, a quote by Marianne Williamson. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
What is on your wish list for the next 5 years with NC3?
Top of my list is an NC3 Hawaiian Shirt 🤓
I hope to foster supportive relationships with our industry partners to provide PPE education. Also, I hope to support NC3 with our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. I would love to see our programs engaging more certified female SMEs, Master Instructors, Instructors, and Students, which will enhance all of our certification programs.
What was the best vacation you’ve ever had?
The Philippines! This is where I had my first massage, and let me tell you it was not an activity high on my to-do list but according to vets, the Philippines is the best place to experience a spa & massage. I loved the native fruits, the kindness in people’s eyes, the dances like Tinikling – the entire cultural experience. What made this trip even more special is the long-lasting relationships formed with people I now call friends and we enjoy traveling together.
Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
It’s a tie between Bora Bora & Bolivia! In Bolivia, I’d love to visit the Uyuni Salt Flats during the wet season, which creates an infinite mirror effect between the sky and the ground. The videos are absolutely beautiful.
What does true leadership mean to you?
True leadership endures, inspires, evolves, and displays a consistent relationship between leading and learning. A true leader is an active listener, which helps them lead by learning. A true leader has integrity and leads by example.
