Our team at NC3 has some impressive employees in our ranks and this Staff Spotlight series aims to highlight the incredibly talented individuals who work with us. We’ll be featuring a new interview in our monthly newsletters, here on our website, and on our social media pages each month.
This month’s Staff Spotlight features team member Charlene Niewerth… NC3’s Accountant!
Before joining the NC3 team, Charlene spent many years working for a small wholesale distribution company wearing many hats… including, HR, payroll, A/R, A/P, and account reconciliation! When looking to further her career, she enrolled at Gateway Technical College to earn her AAS in Accounting and found that going back to school was an amazing experience. Not only did it open up new doors for her, but she realized how much she enjoyed learning!
In her role here at NC3, Charlene stays busy invoicing all the Train-The-Trainer and NC3 Membership events, along with overseeing other accounting projects necessary to operate a company. In addition to spearheading accounting tasks, Charlene is looking forward to attending her first Train-The-Trainer event at Gateway Technical College in July to see firsthand how trainings come together.
Check out our Q&A session below to learn more about Charlene, what originally drew her to NC3, what she would tell someone in high school about the years to come, and more!
What drew you to NC3 originally?
What drew me to NC3 is that I am a graduate of Gateway Technical College and I received my QuickBooks Online Certification through Certiport; both Gateway and Certiport are NC3 industry partners! I experienced and appreciate the value of the career and education that technical and community colleges offer students of all ages. With the help of NC3, schools can provide state-of-the-art training in numerous fields that don’t require a four-year degree.
How would you describe the NC3 team?
Describing the NC3 team is easy; I find everyone is knowledgeable, kind, and always willing to help the new person succeed. I have to say Joanie Brookhouse made the transition to NC3 effortless, as she is fantastic with training and always available to answer questions, regardless of what time it is.
What are some fun elements of working with NC3 that you only learned about after you started working here?
One of the fun elements I learned working at NC3 is having a Zoom Christmas party, complete with cookie decorating and an ugly sweater contest! The NC3 Train-the-Trainer Team did a great job hosting this virtual event.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
One thing people don’t know about me is that I enjoy Musky fishing. Every summer, my entire family heads to the north woods to spend time together and do some fishing. Also, I have two German Shepherd Dogs.
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
My favorite motto is ‘don’t judge someone if you have never walked in their shoes.’ I try to live by this every day, as you never know what someone else is going through.
What would you tell someone in high school about the years to come?
I would tell someone in high school about the years to come that you don’t have to spend four years at a university and go into debt to be successful. Check out the local technical and community colleges and see what they offer!
