To close out 2023, NC3 proudly presented awards to six top-performing schools in the NC3 Network: Utica Shale Academy, Odessa College, Mech-Tech College, WSU Tech, Gateway Technical College, and Metropolitan Community College.
The 2023 START Award was presented to Utica Shale Academy in recognition of being the top high school in the NC3 Network to develop and implement industry partnerships that move ideas and people forward.
Utica Shale Academy in Salineville, Ohio is a tuition-free, publicly funded high school that employs a blended learning approach, combining online curriculum with on-site instruction. Students benefit from cutting-edge digital curricula for both traditional coursework and specialized programs focusing on the oil and gas industry. At Utica Shale Academy, students gain a head start in life by having access to 23 NC3 certifications through partnerships with 5 global industry leaders. We’re proud of the work this institution is doing to position itself as a prominent leader in secondary education in Ohio and North America and are honored to designate them as the 2023 START Award winner.
The #1 School on the Rise Award was presented to Odessa College in recognition of being the highest-achieving “School on the Rise” award winner in 2023.
Odessa College in Odessa, Texas has made a serious commitment to preparing its students for a successful future through robust career and technical education offerings. Since becoming an NC3 Leadership and LEEPS School in 2021, this school has issued over 2,959 certifications from Lincoln Electric and Snap-on! Among this school’s many achievements is their ‘Earn While You Learn’ Program, which provides participating students a mentor as well as tuition assistance through 15 community partners that hire adult students within the first eight weeks of their CTE program. Through this program, 98% of Odessa’s adult student population is working in the industry associated with their certifications! As this school continues to set its sights high towards becoming a top institution in the United States, we’re honored to designate them NC3’s #1 School on the Rise for 2023!
Odessa College was chosen from a list of several other schools that were awarded the NC3 “School on the Rise” designation, which is granted to schools that have shown consistent growth in issued certifications as well as dedication to career and technical education since joining the NC3 Network. Other schools awarded the “School on the Rise” designation were Pratt Community College, Mission Trails ROP, Saline County Career & Technical Campus, North Farmington High School, TCAT Morristown, Virginia Western Community College, and West-MEC.
Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kansas is committed to providing their community with opportunities for educational and economic growth. Since becoming an NC3Start Member in 2021, this school has established exceptional Snap-on automotive and Lincoln Electric welding programs that have issued over 2,500 industry-recognized certifications to their students.
Mission Trails ROP in Salinas, California was the very first program of its kind to provide career and technical opportunities to the students in their community! After becoming an NC3 Leadership School in 2021, they rapidly expanded their programs to include Snap-on and Kubota TECH and since then have further showcased their commitment to CTE by providing students with an immense opportunity to gain the skills they need to confidently embark on their chosen career path.
Saline County Career & Technical Campus in Benton, Arkansas expanded their program offerings to include Lincoln Electric, Trane, and Festo shortly after becoming an NC3 Leadership School in 2021 in hopes of creating better economic opportunities for students in their community. This school focuses on “Next Chapter” preparation and through their alliance with other community organizations and surrounding institutions, is proud to be able to provide an immense amount of support to students after graduation no matter what path they choose.
North Farmington High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan has established an outstanding Snap-on certification program that has provided over 300 industry-recognized certifications to their automotive students. To build upon their real-world method of teaching, students also participate in resume building exercises and job interview projects to prepare them for successful employment.
TCAT Morristown in Morristown, Tennessee has exceeded its goal of serving as a premier provider of workforce development for students in Tennessee since joining the NC3 Network in 2014. To date, this Leadership School has issued over 3,500 certifications to students through their Snap-on, Trane, and Festo programs! Focused primarily on workforce development, this school values the chance to provide students with access to industry equipment through NC3 and prides itself on providing competency-based training through high-quality traditional and distance learning methods.
Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, Virginia became an NC3 Certification Center in 2020 and has issued over 800 Snap-on, Festo, and Trane certifications to date! Through their understanding that comprehensive career pathways call for a flexible and inclusive approach to lifelong learning, this school provides students unique opportunities to sample their fields of interest before making big life decisions.
West-MEC in Glendale, Arizona underwent big transformative changes to set its students up for success in the dynamic workforce of today. This NC3 Leadership School serves as an NC3 Center of Excellence institute for Automotive, Advanced Manufacturing, and Welding. One of the cornerstones of its success lies in its unwavering commitment to providing students with industry-recognized credentials and its acknowledgement that offering cutting-edge certifications in a wide array of technical fields is of paramount importance for students seeking a competitive edge in the job market.
Last but definitely not least, NC3 is honored to be celebrating four certification race awards to schools that issued the most industry-recognized certifications to their students above all 1,800+ schools in the NC3 Network in 2023.
Mech-Tech College in Caguas, Puerto Rico was the #1 top-performing school in the NC3 Network, issuing 6,784 NC3 certifications, and as such was presented the 2023 Enterprise Award. This institution is committed to technical education and considers the successes of their students as their mission accomplished. As a national leader in the field of occupational education for the automotive industry, Mech-Tech proudly issues 37 industry-recognized certifications through Snap-on while also educating and training future professionals through NC3’s Greenlee, Festo, Dremel, Tormach, 3M, and Lincoln Electric programs.
Dennis Iudice Memorial Awards were also presented to three schools that issued the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th highest number of industry-recognized certifications among all schools in the NC3 Network. Boasting 4,189, 3,485, and 2,869 issued certifications respectively, awards were presented to WSU Tech, Gateway Technical College, and Metropolitan Community College for going above-and-beyond with their contribution to skills certification training and for being true leaders in career and technical education.
WSU Tech in Wichita, Kansas works hard to consistently be among the list of NC3’s top-performing schools. This institution not only serves as an NC3 Center of Excellence institute for Aviation, Automotive, and Welding and national NC3 Train-the-Trainer site, it also acts as a role model to other NC3 Leadership Schools by consistently hosting exceptional NC3 National Letter of Intent Signing Day events for their incoming students.
Gateway Technical College in Kenosha, Wisconsin is NC3’s founding school and is consistently one of NC3’s top-performers. This institution hosts several NC3 Centers of Excellence across multiple programs, utilizes a wide variety of certifications, and is an incredibly strong innovator in CTE. This institution is also a national NC3 Train-the-Trainer site and host of the Annual NC3 Leadership Summit Conference.
Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska has been an NC3 Leadership School since 2013 and has continued climbing the ranks as a top-performing NC3 school year-after-year. This institution currently offers its students the opportunity to earn 40 different Snap-on Certifications! Metropolitan Community College is undeniably paving the way forward for technical education in their state and is an institution that’s definitely worth celebrating.
