Background 30 plus years as an electrician. Holding positions as service truck driver, foreman, general foreman, and currently contractor with a State of Wisconsin Master Electrician License.
Why Did You Choose to Become a Master Instructor? Greenlee Tools have been around for over 150 years. Tools that I have used throughout my career that have been constantly redeveloped for better ergonomics, better reliability, and safety. Greenlee developed these classes to promote the proper and safe use of their tools. This will help the electrical industry as a whole and I wanted to be part of that.
Benefits of Being a Master Instructor At NC3 events, I meet other instructors from all over the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. To properly train someone at NC3 events is always challenging because you are meeting people with different backgrounds, knowledge of the tools, and above all else different safety standards. Having the proper in-depth curriculum, tools for everyone to use, and the knowledge of the other instructors - all with the common goal to learn - makes these events special because everyone participates and helps everyone learn. They will remember the school and instructor when they return home and hopefully keep looking at what other courses are developed in the future and return or at least tell other instructors about the programs that are available to sign up.

I have been the President/Owner of two engineering companies designing and building automated equipment and manufacturing cells including complete facilities. I currently teach SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Processes, Elements of Machine Design, Project Management, and other mechanical engineering subjects.
Why Did You Choose to Become a Master Instructor? I enjoy the Train the Trainer model. I learn from other instructors as I teach them what I know in various subject areas. I believe in the Gateway vision, as instructor we can make life changing educational opportunities for our students. In particular, NC3 works to teach Industry-Focused materials to students, this makes certifications accessible, and affordable to our students. The NC3 model has zero cost to our students to become certified in knowledge areas. This makes the certifications affordable to the students and gives the students credentials employers are requesting.
Benefits of Being a Master Instructor The NC3 curriculum is written in conjunction with leading industrial partner and experts in the fields of expertise, so it is current and relevant to students and employers. The content of the course materials gives students a balance of theory and practical hands-on experiences. An example of these skills and abilities learned by students can easily be demonstrated using a micrometer a precision measuring device that can measure parts to 0.0001 of an inch. But this micrometer could be compared to a “C” clamp that is a crude clamping device and just holds materials together with lots of force and distorting the parts. The NC3 model allows standardizes materials and training to improve instructor performance and consistency thus providing quality and excellence in the education provided to all students.

All Fundamental & Applied Festo Certifications
Background As a licensed Industrial electrician my passion for teaching and automation started early in my career. After leaving the Canadian Armed Forces, I was given the opportunity to attend a technical school that not only provided the Ontario trades certification but also a Mechatronics Specialist from Germany as well. From there I completed my apprenticeship and worked for many employers across Canada, including Magna, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, a defence contractor building armoured vehicle components, and food and beverage manufacturing. From there I transitioned into System Integration supporting multi-million dollar projects and various OEMs. I was given the opportunity to start teaching and fell in love with teaching post-secondary students in the field of Mechatronics.
Why Did You Choose to Become a Master Instructor? Passing along the knowledge to other instructors is a critical component to expanding the reach of Mechatronics. The collaboration and outreach that comes with being a master instructor is such a great feeling! Bringing my passion to class and having the other instructors get excited and energized is what makes the NC3 community so awesome!
Benefits of Being a Master Instructor Becoming a Master instructor has benefited me by allowing me to learn from a huge cross section of people in the education sector. The instructors in my class always bring great ideas and different ways to approach problems and we are able to share these ideas to raise the quality of teaching across the continent. This is super beneficial for my school as well, as we are able to utilize ideas from across Canada and the US to continually provide the highest level of training for our students and communities.

Why Did You Choose to Become a Master Instructor? I chose to become a Master Instructor in Introduction to Mechatronics to share what I know works in the classroom with other instructors. When I begin a class for students or trainers, I say, “There is a lot of learning in those three little boxes.” My students enjoy the MecLab trainer and are excited when they pass the certification test. I want other instructor’s students to experience that opportunity.
Benefits of Being a Master Instructor I have had the Festo Mechatronics Trainer in my classroom/lab for many years but was excited to attend the Train the Trainer Session to become eligible to certify my students in Introduction to Mechatronics. The curriculum acquired through Festo/NC3 was excellent and the synergy generated among the “trainers” was priceless. When I was asked to instruct at a Trainer the Trainer event, I immediately said yes. As instructors know, you become better at your craft each time you engage with professionals in education and are re-energized when participating in dynamic sessions. Each time I present at a Train the Trainer event, I return to my students with updated information, new methods to use in teaching, and excited to share what I learned with them.

Lincoln Electric 4 Process Welding Certifications
Background I have been working for Gateway now for 20 years. I teach welding and I am the chair of the Welding, HVAC, Building trades, and Facilities departments. Previous to working at Gateway I worked at several companies where we specialized in Aluminum MIG and at the time the 2nd largest consumer of aluminum in the state of Wisconsin. I then transitioned to the aviation world where I specialized in Stainless steel, Aluminum, and Chro-moly TIG and was certified for each metal under the FAA certification repair number of the company. This is a unique process as each welder does their own cert but once you leave the company that cert expires. I also have owned a small business that specializes in automotive related products out of stainless steel and aluminum and have created a niche market for magnesium repair within the market. I have done this business for 19 years now.
Why Did You Choose to Become a Master Instructor? Why I chose to be a master instructor: I wanted to be part of a unique pathway into the world of welding certifications. There are many certifications out there but with Lincoln and NC3 partnership there was a way to bring certifications into our program with no cost to the student and create a pathway for the students into employment with a credential.
Benefits of Being a Master Instructor Benefits of being a master instructor: It is a great opportunity for me to meet new people and network with instructors I otherwise would not have been able to. I have been able to develop some long term friendships over the last few years that have also led to new ideas to provide improvements in my classes as well.
