This program is designed to foster a solid understanding of the fundamentals of working with precision measurement instruments and quality control. These certifications are based on the expectations of globally-recognized companies that are designers and manufacturers of advanced measuring instruments.

Structural Sheet Metal Assembly Certification
Snap-on, Sioux, ATI, and Starrett, all leaders in aviation tooling, have come together to create a series of best practices utilizing the best tools available for sheet metal work. The successful completion of the Structural Sheet Metal Assembly Certification will allow students or the incumbent workforce to demonstrate a solid understanding of the tools and equipment used in sheet metal assembly and repair. The ability to properly layout, prepare and fasten sheet metal assemblies are a fundamental part of the aviation industry. This certification allows students to be exposed to a variety of drilling, fastening and verification methods that are needed by employers in industry today.

Starrett Case Studies
Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, located in Fitchburg Massachusetts, is a local case of PMI and AMI program integrations. “To date, Monty Tech has issued over 500 certifications in measuring,” said Kevin Killay, Machine Technology Instructor at Montachusett. “The curriculum included is robust and aligns perfectly with the measuring competencies in the teaching frameworks for Machine Technology.” Placement of these students in the local community is up, including many hires at neighboring Starrett headquarters.

The Precision Measurement Instruments (PMI) Certification Program is exactly what students in Kansas should be experiencing to prepare them for real-world experiences and jobs. All students would benefit from obtaining certification with the measurement tools. It is obvious how obtaining these skills and knowledge would serve students in their academic careers, future work careers and everyday life. I was thoroughly impressed with how the program integrates decimals and fractions in a way that students can apply their understanding of those concepts in a way that really answers the question, "Why do we have to learn this?" If I was still teaching, I would be begging my administrators to get certified and make the program part of my curriculum.
The partnership between Starrett, NC3 and WSU Tech is helping our students bridge the gap between their tribal knowledge of measurement and precision measuring. Being able to provide our students the opportunity to become certified in PMI and AMI aids them in the Wichita area job market as these qualifications are highly recommended in certain industries, and has even become a selling point during job interviews. We try to impress upon our students the importance of being able to acquire and use these skills, none of which would be possible without Starrett’s continued presence in both our classrooms and in industry itself.
The partnership between Starrett and Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School has been extremely beneficial to our students. One of the greatest additions we received was the Starrett PMI and AMI kits. The part I like most about the curriculum is the thirteen stackable credentials that our students can take with them into the workforce. I also especially like the ability to teach twenty students at once, which ensures that each student gets the same exposure to these important measuring instruments. I have always been impressed by Starrett’s quality and reliability, and when I worked in industry I wanted no other tool in my toolbox. Now I am able to share that same quality and reliability with my students.
